Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) allotted more than Php116 million emergency loan for its active members and old-age pensioners in the entire province of Zamboanga del Norte, R. T. Lim in Zamboanga Sibugay, and Dimataling in Zamboanga del Sur due to the ill effects of El Niño.
A total of 1,224 members in Zamboanga del Norte who are borrowing for the first time may avail of a Php20,000 emergency loan, while the 1,023 members with existing emergency loans may borrow Php40,000, from which the outstanding balance will be deducted.
In R. T. Lim and Dimataling, all 1,033 members may borrow Php20,000.
A total of 1,519 elderly pensioners in the three calamity-affected areas may apply for the Php20,000 pension emergency loan.
Active members are qualified to apply if they are working or residing in the calamity-declared areas, are not on leave of absence without pay, and have no arrears in paying premium contributions in the last six months.
The emergency loan is payable in thirty-six (36) equal monthly installments and carries a 6-percent interest rate per annum computed in advance. It is covered by a loan redemption insurance, which deems the loan fully paid in case of the borrower’s demise provided the loan repayment is up to date.
Active members may apply through any GSIS Wireless Automated Processing System (GWAPS) kiosk located in all GSIS branches and extension offices, provincial capitols, city halls, selected municipal offices, main government agencies such as the Department of Education, Robinsons Malls and selected SM City branches (North EDSA, Manila, Pampanga, Cebu, and Aura in Taguig).
Old-age pensioners are required to personally apply at the GSIS Dipolog or Pagadian Branch Office to secure their identity and loan transaction. If they are active members (for having been re-employed in the government service), they may only apply for the emergency loan once.
The deadline for loan application is on June 28, 2016.
